Happy National Doughnut Day!
Happy National Doughnut Day! Are you planning on celebrating this sweet day? One way you can do this is by stopping by your local Krispy Kreme. No matter what kind of doughnut you like, they are sure to satisfy your sweet tooth.
Aside from the free doughnuts, there’s actually a lot more behind this day. This sweet tradition goes all the way back to World War I. During this time, the women who volunteered for the Salvation Army would make doughnuts for the soldiers who were fighting over seas. The Salvation Army then took this idea and launched National Doughnut Day in 1938 in Chicago. The purpose of this day was to raise funds and awareness for the organization.
This tradition then carried into World War II. But this time the Salvation Army volunteers had a new title. They would be called either Salvation Army`s dough girls or dough lassies. As LIFE wrote of the volunteers, “They are hand-picked for looks, education, personality and experience in recreational fields. They are hardy physically and have a sociable, friendly manner.” The soldier’s spirits were instantly lifted when they were delivered doughnuts. The slogan “doughnuts will win the war”, was also commonly used. Now you know the historical facts behind this delicious treat. You can also donate to the Salvation Army when you pick up your free doughnut at Krispy Kreme!

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, is about to add an unexpected cast member to their list. Paul McCartney is the newest member being added to the pirate gang. Although it has not been confirmed on what his role will be, we are sure that he will be joining Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow, Geoffrey Rush as Barbossa, Javier Bardem as the villainous Captain Salazar, Brenton Thwaites and Kaya Scodelario as new characters, and Orlando Bloom as Will Turner.
There has been a 6 year hiatus for these pirates but they will return to the big screen on May 26, 2017. Fans have become very anxious for this movie to have an official start date, especially since Disney has postponed it several times. This means that in a year from now, you will be able to see Captain Jack Sparrow take the high seas. This time his antagonist will come in the form of the deadly Captain Salazar (Javier Bardem). After managing to escape the Devil’s Triangle with his crew, Salazar takes on a mission to kill every pirate alive… and that most definitely includes Captain Jack. Geoffrey Rush, Kevin McNally, Martin Klebba will all be back for another round of adventure, but the big return is Orlando Bloom, who will reprise his role as Will Turner. Joining the series for Dead Men Tell No Tales will also be The Giver star Brenton Thwaites and The Maze Runner’s Kaya Scodelario. Now it is time to see how Sir Paul McCartney will fit into this mix.
