Four Things You Should Know Before Watching Superbowl XLIX

Four Things You Should Know Before Watching Superbowl XLIX

It’s almost time for the Super Bowl! Here’s the top 4 things that you need to know. After 4 months of battling to the top, the Seattle Seahawks will face off against the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLIX. This showdown will take place in Glendale, Arizona. NFL: Arizona Cardinals at Seattle Seahawks

The first fun fact to know is that this super bowl will be the 11th time that the number one team from the AFC will verse the number one team from the NFC.

The second fun fact is that if the Seahawks succeed in winning then they will be the second repeat champions in a decade. No team has done this since The New England Patriots in 2005.

The third fun fact is the highly anticipated entertainment. The stadium will “roar” with a half time NFL: Denver Broncos at New England Patriotsperformance by Katy Perry. She’s also bringing in Lenny Kravitz for back up. The Super Bowl entertainment wouldn’t be complete without the national anthem being sung but Idina Minzel.

The last fun fact is that after this year’s title tilt, the NFL has chosen to break tradition regarding their Roman numeral title.

The 2016 Super Bowl will be known just as Super Bowl 50. This Super Bowl is set to take place in San Francisco at the 49ers’ Levi’s stadium. Between the two number one teams completing for one championship and a phenomenal entertainment lineup, this years Super Bowl is to be nothing short of amazing.

Identity Theft: Should You Carry It On Your Homeowners Policy?

Identity Theft: Should You Carry It On Your Homeowners Policy?

credit-card-fraud (1)If you are a Homeowner, and carry a Homeowners policy, you might be wondering whether or not it is worth it to endorse identity theft coverage onto your policy.

“What is identity theft?” “What is the chance of it happening to me?”

Identity theft is fraudulent acquisition and the use of a person’s private identifying information. Identity theft happens to over 15 million people in the United States every year. There is no doubt that you could be at risk of identity theft.

Before you decide whether or not to add identity theft onto your homeowners insurance, it is important to understand what the endorsement covers and does not cover.

Identity theft coverage will cover:

The expenses involved in repairing your credit and restoring your identity. This could include things such as lost wages, legal fees, any fees associated with reapplying loans and the cost of phone calls, postage and notarization during the credit-reparation process.

Identity theft coverage will NOT cover:

Any assets that were taken due to the identity theft. Identity theft will only cover the expenses related to restoring your credit. Theft from your bank account would be covered by your bank’s zero-liability policies, not from your identity coverage policy on your homeowners policy.identity_theft

Some homeowner’s policies already include identity coverage. In any case, it is important to check with your insurance company or agent to see if your current policy includes these benefits.

Even if your policy doesn’t, identity theft coverage can often be added for only $15-$60 per year.
If you have any questions regarding your homeowners policy and if you have identity theft coverage, give C.H. Edwards, Inc. a call. Our Personal Lines Representative will be able to find coverage that best fits your individual needs.

Is Financial Planning one of your New Year’s Resolutions? Don’t forget about your Insurance.

Is Financial Planning one of your New Year’s Resolutions? Don’t forget about your Insurance.

money and savingThe new year is upon us and we are still working on this year’s resolutions. Did you make Financial Planning part of your resolution this year? Insurance is an important piece of building a solid financial foundation because it helps to minimize your financial risks.

How much do you know about Insurance? This is a good time to learn more. Insurance can provide valuable protection from potential risks, for example if you need to replace your laptop if it’s stolen or if you are unable to work due to sudden injury. Both can be very expensive, but with the right insurance, they will not become a financial burden.

Depending on your personal situation, your insurance needs will vary. This year resolve to learn more about your insurance needs and how you can protect yourself and build a solid financial future.

How can Insurance help you?

Re-evaluating your existing coverage can save you money and in the future, ensure you are protected against any misfortune down the line. Understand your insurance and learn more about how much and what coverage you need.

Speaking with an agent to review your insurance is the way to get started. Don’t be afraid to ask your agent all of your questions. This is the best way to obtain the knowledge you require. A good agent will take the time to talk with you and answer all of your questions. If you feel uncomfortable or feel like you are being rushed, then maybe your current agent is not the right fit for your needs.

Here are some items that should be on your checklist to a successful financial future:

-How much are your belongings worth? Do you need Renters Insurance?money in jar

-Do you have a car? Are you carrying enough coverage, or the right coverage? In some cases, spending a little bit more initially can save you down the line. Maybe tailoring some of your other coverage will allow you what you need to make this decision.

-Think about your future. Will you have a student in college anytime soon? This may be another time in your life that you are vulnerable. There are solutions for many areas of student life. Is your family protected in the event that you become disabled? Have you considered if your families current quality of life would be affected when you can no longer be with them. Now is the time to consider Life and or Disability Insurance so that you will no longer need to worry about that.

-Is this the year you are looking to start that business you always dreamed of? Do you know what kind of insurance is required for a business? Will you be running your business from your home or renting a property? Be prepared.

Insurance can be intimidating, but it can also be a lifesaver in the event of a loss. Choosing the least expensive insurance can save you money now, but if the coverage is not adequate, those savings won’t matter if something were to happen. With insurance, value is more important than price.
piggy bankAn agent can tell you if you qualify for any discounts and assist you in getting the best possible coverage for your money.

The time you invest today, will save you in the future. In life, accidents happen. Don’t let one set back prevent you from reaching your goals this year. Help protect yourself and your money with insurance. Do your research and talk to an agent that will help you move forward.

If you are already a client of C.H. Edwards, Inc., please call us for an Insurance Review today. If you are receiving this and have been unable to acquire this information from your current agent, why not give us a call. Be Magical

Be Magical

There was an advertisement poster on the train for Disney bracelets. The bracelet is a series of different charms to be strung around the wrist and custom-made. One of the silvery heart-like charms had the words, “Be Magical” engraved with a tiny Mickey Mouse emblem and diamond-like chips sparkled in its background.

This is what I remember about Disney:
Little girl looked up at the stage to watch the lights beam while the curtain opened and her eyes sort of glistened in the reflection of the greatest show on earth.
She stared in complete amazement—watching magic perform in front of her. And to the little girl, this was whole new world of amazement. This is a world or purity and truth; this is a world of imagination that comes with princes and princesses. It comes with kingdoms and all we can dream of.

To the little girl, this was the embodiment of wonder. But to me, the father of that little girl, a tear formed because I never knew anything could be this beautiful.be magical

Be Magical . . .

There are different forms of magic. Take you for example and the magic you have over me when you simply the room.

To explain to everyone else . . .

She is the kind of beautiful that stops you—this is the kind of beauty that makes you stand still and you stare. You stare because you can’t move when she passes. You stare because you don’t want to blink, because blinking could lead to a millisecond of lost time, and even a millisecond of distraction is way too long. You stare because when she passes you can literally do nothing else but watch as she moves by.

And when she is gone, you wish you spoke, or smiled, or did anything so she would have stayed longer and the room could have remained a little brighter.
She is the kind of beautiful that when she leaves the room, you wish you could see her again. You wish you could hear her speak just one more time, because when she speaks, her voice somehow vibrates inside of you. And it’s good . . .

That’s magic.

However, I keep thinking about those words, “Be Magical.”

I say there is magic in the sunrise. And I depend on this magic. I look through the living room window of my home, which faces south, and I watch the sun arrive above the homes in my Long Island town. I look at my friend, The Old Tree, which stands in front of a lawn across the street from my house.

That tree has been here for decades. It has been here before me or any of the other homeowners on my block. And though it is not esthetically perfect; its limbs are broken, and its branches are mostly empty, The Old Tree has remained and survived whatever the seasons decided to offer.

The Old Tree survived storms and hurricanes. Whereas younger trees, or seemingly prettier and esthetically healthier trees have fallen to storms, The Old Tree refused to give way. Its deep roots hold strong and symbolize the magic of endurance.

I love that tree.

But there is more to say on the subject of magic—because magic is real.

Don’t believe me? Then I suggest you do research on a man named, Felix Baumgartner. Felix held the record for the highest skydive. He jumped from the edge of space, just above the atmosphere, at some 128,000 miles above the earth.

As he stepped outside of the small, balloon-risen capsule, he hovered above our planet where oxygen ends and the vacuum of space begins. He stared down at the vastness of Earth while suited in his spacesuit with only ten minutes of breathable air. Then he spoke to Ground Control and said, “I’m heading home.”

He said, “The whole world is watching me now. I wish they could see what I could see.” His breath was heavy as he said, “Sometimes . . . you have to get up really high to understand how small you are.” Then Baumgartner saluted. He said, “I’m coming home now,” and in a leap, Baumgartner dove from space and defied the speed of sound while freefalling at 729mph to the ground.imagespn7fv1os[1]

His breathing remained heavy as Ground Control reported his speed. At first, Baumgartner struggled for control. He tumbled and nearly lost consciousness; however, he overcame the spin and Baumgartner regained control of his jump.

When his chute deployed, Baumgartner swooped down from the sky. He simply floated down and landed on the ground. He jumped from 128,000 miles above the world, falling at a top speed of 729mph, and he landed on both feet as if he jumped from a stoop.

The charm says, “Be Magical.”

I may not be ready to dive from 128,000 miles above the earth, and I’m not sure I could handle a free-fall of 729mph, but I do know what it means to want to live out loud.
I know what it means to want slash the throat of the midnight sky and rage until the first moments of dawn. I know what it means to create. I know what it means to live, to build, and to dream.

I know what it means to dare, to love, and to give with all I have.

And that, in and of itself, is magical.

The dictionary defines magic as: The art of producing a desired effect or results through the use of various techniques that presumably assume human control of supernatural agencies or the forces of nature.

But I say it’s more.

Don’t you?

Are Your Pets Protected From the Cold Weather?

Are Your Pets Protected From the Cold Weather?

warm catIn many areas, the winter season can be bitter cold. Although your four legged furry friend may have fur and a warm coat, that does not mean they are protected from bone chilling temperatures.

It is important to help your pet maintain their health and happiness during the colder months.

Here are the Top Ten Ways you can help your furry friend(s) this season:

1. Keep pets indoors where it is warm –
Avoid leaving your cat or dog outside with no supervision. If you are letting your pet outside to use the bathroom, stand by the door, wait for your pet to take care of their business and bring them back inside immediately.

2. Take Precautions if your pet spends a lot off time outside –
If your pet likes to spend time outside, be sure that they have a place to go to warm up, such as a dog house. Dog houses should be a few inches off the ground and should be covered with cedar shavings or straw. Be sure that the opening to the shelter is facing away from the wind.

3. Help Feral Cats in your Neighborhood –
Provide food and water for them in a bowl in a area outside covered by an awning.Help them keep warm by buying a large foam cooler, cutting a opening on one of the ends and placing it somewhere safe and dry outside. The body heat from the cat with absorb into the foam providing heat for the cat.

4. Give extra helping –
Pets and animals need more food during the colder months to keep their energy levels high. Trying to stay warm depletes their energy.

5. Beware of cats sheltering in cars –
Cats seek shelter in cars during the winter. Whether it is underneath the car or somewhere under your hood, they will find a way to nuzzle in and keep warm. Before starting your car, give a good bang on the hood. Once you get in the car, honk your horn. Making noise will awaken any sleeping cats. Before driving away leave a few minutes incase any cats need to escape your car. Cats can squeeze them selves into the tiniest spaces and may need some extra time to weasel their way out.

6. Protect Paws from Salt –
The salt and other chemicals used to melt snow and ice can irritate the pads of your pet’s feet. When your pet returns inside, wipe down their feet with a warm damp towel. dog cold

7. Avoid Anti-Freeze Poisoning –
Anti-Freeze has a sweet taste that may attract pets and even young children. Store any anti-freeze products you have in a high closet or cupboard.

8. Speak Up! –
If you see an animal left in the cold for a long period of time. Document what you see, take a picture and contact your nearest Animal Rescue or Patrol.

9. Keep Your Pets Near You –
Keeping your pets close and providing them with human interaction will help keep them happy and lively.

10. If you Own Horses –
All horse owners should feed their horses around the clock. Make sure they have a warm barn to go into for shelter as well as blankets to keep warm.

Follow these tips and protect your furry friend this winter season.
